1. Remove Insole

For the best fit, take out the removable insole if there is one.

2. Line Up & Trace

Place the shoe insole on top of the orthotic, (A) line up both the backs of the heels and (B) the inside the edges, and then (C) use a pen to trace the outline of the shoe insole onto the orthotic.
NOTE: If the insole can’t be removed, place the footwear on top of orthotic and trace an outline around the toe.

3. Trim

Cut along the OUTSIDE of the traced line. Don’t worry if it’s too long, you can always trim a little more. Trim it, try it... trim it, try it.

4. Insert & Test

Put the trimmed orthotic into the shoe.
NOTE: Test to make sure the orthotic can shift front to back inside about 1/16” or 2mm (the width of a nickel), so the insole can work with the natural movement of the foot inside the shoe.

Cleaning Care Instructions

Taking care of your orthotics is easy

Orthotic Care

Your devices may be washed periodically with soap and warm water. Allow your devices to air dry. Do not soak your devices in liquid. Do not use a heating appliance to dry your devices, i.e., hair dryer, clothing dryer, heat gun, or heat lamp.

Typical Wear & Life Span

The lifespan of your devices will depend on a few factors. Your activity level, size, and frequency of use will all have an affect on how long your devices last. The padding and top covers will typically wear out before the shell and posts. When you begin to see excessive wear, order a new pair.

Inspect Your Orthotics

Taking your devices out of your shoes periodically for cleaning and inspection will ensure that your orthotics are still in good shape, no debris has gotten under your devices causing instability, and no part of the devices is experiencing excessive wear. If anything appears to be out of the ordinary please do not hesitate to contact your prescribing practitioner.

Break-in schedule

Orthotics can feel “different” at first because they change mechanics. Build up gradually:

Day 1: Wear no longer than 1 hour
Day 2: Wear no longer than 1 hour
Day 3: Wear no longer than 2 hours
Day 4: Do Not Wear, Take a Break
Day 5: Wear no longer than 3 hours
Day 6: Wear no longer than 5 hours
Day 7: Do Not Wear, Take a Break
Day 8: Wear no longer than 7 hours
Day 9: Wear no longer than 9 hours
Day 10: Do Not Wear, Take a Break
Day 11: Wear up to 10 hours

Avoid intense activity during break-in. If you develop new joint pain, contact your clinician.

Ordering & Product Fit

What makes GoMFO different?

Our orthotics are designed by diagnosis (condition-specific), built on proven orthotic foundations, and made-to-order based on your selections and fit needs. Every order is reviewed before it ships.

Are these custom orthotics?

No, and we won't claim they are. Our devices are personalized: made-to-order and tailored to the details you provide (shoe type, size, symptom side, fit notes, and measurements where applicable), without a practitioner directing the build. A custom orthotic is designed and prescribed for one patient by a practitioner working from an impression of that foot. If a clinician has recommended a custom device, follow that recommendation. Need help finding a provider? Find one here.

How do I choose the right orthotic for my condition?

Start by selecting the option that best matches your primary symptoms/diagnosis. If you’re unsure, contact us—our team can help with a quick symptom check to guide you to the best match.

What does “Shoe Style” mean at checkout?

You’ll choose the shoe category you plan to wear the orthotics in most:

  • Athletic: sneakers / running / walking shoes
  • Dress: lower-profile fit for dress shoes
  • Orthopedic: more volume and accommodation for orthopedic-style footwear

Choosing the right shoe style helps the orthotic fit and function correctly.

Do I need to remove my shoe’s existing insole?

Often yes. For best fit, remove the removable sock liner (the thin insole that comes with many shoes) before inserting your orthotics.

Can I use the orthotics in multiple pairs of shoes?

Yes—many customers move them between shoes that have similar volume and shape. If your shoes vary a lot (dress vs. athletic), you may prefer separate pairs.

Manufacturing & Shipping

How long does it take to make my orthotics?

Most devices are made on demand. Typical production turnaround ranges about 2–6 days depending on volume.

Do you ship internationally?

We offer international checkout options. Shipping costs, duties, and taxes (if applicable) are calculated at checkout based on your delivery address.

Break-in & Comfort

How should I break in my orthotics?

Orthotics can feel “different” at first because they change mechanics. Build up gradually:

Day 1: Wear no longer than 1 hour
Day 2: Wear no longer than 1 hour
Day 3: Wear no longer than 2 hours
Day 4: Do not wear (take a break)
Day 5: Wear no longer than 3 hours
Day 6: Wear no longer than 5 hours
Day 7: Do not wear (take a break)
Day 8: Wear no longer than 7 hours
Day 9: Wear no longer than 9 hours
Day 10: Do not wear (take a break)
Day 11: Wear up to 10 hours

Avoid intense activity during the break-in period.

Can I run or do sports in them right away?

We recommend avoiding intense activity during break-in. After you’ve adapted (around 10 days), you can gradually return to higher-impact activity if you’re comfortable.

What if I feel new knee/hip/back pain?

Stop using the orthotics and consult a licensed clinician. New joint pain can be a sign the device isn’t right for your mechanics or you need a different plan.

Trimming, Replacement, and Care

Do I need to trim the orthotics?

Sometimes. If your orthotics extend past your shoe’s toe box, you can trim them following our replacement instructions.

How do I trim them correctly?

Remove your existing shoe insole if possible, line up heel-to-heel and along the inside edge, trace, then trim along the OUTSIDE of the traced line. Trim a little at a time and test the fit.
Replacement Instructions.

How do I clean my orthotics?

Wash periodically with soap and warm water. Air dry only. Do not soak them in liquid and do not use heat (hair dryer, clothing dryer, heat gun, heat lamp) to dry.
Replacement Instructions.

How long do orthotics last?

Lifespan depends on activity level, size, and frequency of use. Padding and top covers usually wear before the shell. When you notice excessive wear or reduced comfort/support, it’s time to replace them.

What is the 90‑Day Guarantee?

If you don’t experience meaningful relief within 90 days of receiving your order, we’ll issue a full refund: no questions, no return shipping cost, no hassle.

Insurance & Clinician Questions

Do you accept insurance?

We do not bill insurance directly through the website. If you’d like to submit for possible reimbursement, contact us and we can provide an itemized receipt. Coverage varies widely by plan.

When should I see a doctor instead of ordering online?

If symptoms are severe, worsening, associated with a new injury, or include numbness/tingling, significant swelling/redness, fever, or lack of improvement with conservative care, consult a licensed foot & ankle clinician.
